The Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) is providing EUR 50,000 to establish a new Knowledge Centre for Kingdom Relations, NoticiaCla reported on October 28.
The centre is aimed at strengthening knowledge and cooperation throughout the Dutch Kingdom. The initial funding will help expand a network connecting researchers, policymakers and institutions, particularly across the six Caribbean islands.
Independent research across the Kingdom
According to BZK official Barbera Wolfensberger, independent research should improve understanding of the Kingdom’s history, its social developments and its political and administrative relationships.
Project leader Wouter Veenendaal said he hopes the BZK contribution will encourage other institutions to provide financial support as well, and ensure participation from across the Kingdom.
The funding is an initial contribution toward setting the centre up; the report did not give a location, opening date or total budget for the new Knowledge Centre.
The centre’s network is intended to connect researchers, policymakers and institutions across the whole Kingdom, with particular attention to the six Caribbean islands. With the BZK funding described as an initial contribution, Veenendaal’s hope, as reported, is that other institutions will now add their support, so the centre can be established with participation from every part of the Kingdom.
