ORANJESTAD – Island Princess Cancels Aruba Visit after strong winds made it unsafe for the cruise ship to enter the harbor on Sunday. The vessel attempted to dock but was unable to do so safely due to severe weather conditions. Following the failed docking attempt, the captain decided to change course and head toward Port Everglades in the United States.
Two large cruise ships were scheduled to arrive in Aruba around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday — Explora I and Island Princess. While Explora I successfully docked, Island Princess could not enter the harbor because of the strong winds, according to port authorities.
The Island Princess, owned by Princess Cruises, has a capacity of approximately 2,200 passengers. The ship is now expected to arrive at Port Everglades on February 25.
Meanwhile, Explora I, a luxury cruise ship operated by Explora Journeys with 461 suites, completed its planned stop in Aruba. Today, only one cruise ship is scheduled — Marella Discovery 2 — which arrived at 8:00 a.m. and will depart at 8:00 p.m.
