The Aruba Police Department has confirmed that one of the victims involved in the serious hit-and-run accident in Bubali at the end of December 2025 has passed away.
The accident occurred on Saturday night, December 27, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., on Caya Musica, heading north toward Bubali. Police received reports that a vehicle had struck two women, leaving them seriously injured.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police and paramedics found both victims lying on the road in critical condition. The vehicle involved fled the scene. Witnesses reported that a black pickup truck hit the women, throwing them into the grass along the roadside before fleeing north toward the Bubali Food Center roundabout.
Both victims, identified as American tourists, were stabilized and transported with urgency to the Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital. One of the victims remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit, suffering from a traumatic brain injury, nine broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover medical expenses, raising $23,614 as of Tuesday.
On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, around 1:00 p.m., hospital staff notified police that the victim had passed away. Doctors confirmed the death of Lisa Marie Barnett, born October 26, 1968 (57 years old), from the United States.
Because the accident occurred in 2025, this case is officially recorded as the 11th traffic fatality of that year.
DIARIO and the Aruba Police Department extend their condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Police continue to appeal to anyone with information about the incident or the black pickup truck involved to contact the Police Tip Line at 11141. Calls can be made anonymously. Authorities also urge the driver responsible to take accountability and report to the police.
