ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruban painter Gustave Nouel has returned to Aruba for an artistic and cultural mission connected to the “PRO DEO” project, focused on promoting biblical art and cultural heritage.
Nouel, who currently lives in Deventer in the Netherlands and recently became a chess champion there, will remain in Aruba until June while working in a special studio inside the Protestant Church of Oranjestad.
The initiative is supported by local and Dutch Christian organizations, including Gemeente OASE and House of Hope, which helped finance the artist’s travel expenses.
The mission also aims to revive interest in Aruba’s Biblical Museum and preserve religious artwork connected to the late pastor Van den Doel, who donated an important international Bible collection to the museum decades ago.
Pastor Kees Mos recently renewed efforts to support the museum and reconnect with Nouel’s artwork after discovering several of his paintings stored inside the church.
As part of the project, Nouel is creating two new paintings titled “Creation” and “King David” for the Biblical Museum.
Organizers also hope the initiative can encourage future plans for a museum dedicated to local artists and strengthen Aruba’s cultural and artistic development.
