The Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied (CCG), together with the Rasmussen Henriquez family, proudly hosted the inaugural Belva Awards ceremony, celebrating emerging contemporary artists in Aruba.
This year’s Belva Award was presented to Kim Violenes in recognition of her exceptional artistic vision and contribution to Aruba’s cultural landscape. Additionally, a Belva Honorable Mention was awarded to Carolyn Geerman for the outstanding quality of her work, highlighting artists whose future potential is especially promising.
The Belva Award was created in honor of Belva Rasmussen Henriquez, a native of Aruba whose lifelong passion for art and culture inspired her son, Ben Rasmussen, to establish a fund supporting local artists. Ben stated, “Art and culture played a central role in my mother’s life and are a fundamental part of Aruba’s heritage. Creating a sustainable way to support and encourage local artists is the most meaningful way to honor her legacy.”
The annual award aims to encourage emerging talent and contribute to the cultural future of Aruba, reflecting Belva’s enduring legacy and commitment to the community.
