ORANJESTAD – Traffic-related offenses continue to represent a significant portion of criminal activity in Aruba, according to the Aruba Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) 2025 Annual Report.
The report reveals that driving without a valid license was the most frequently recorded offense during 2025, with a total of 2,055 cases registered. This figure far exceeds any other category of crime reported on the island.
The second most common offense was driving under the influence of alcohol, with 454 cases, followed by assault incidents totaling 436 cases.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office expressed concern that despite ongoing awareness campaigns and regular police enforcement efforts, many drivers continue to operate vehicles without legal authorization. According to OM, this behavior not only violates the law but also creates a serious risk to public road safety.
The report notes that driving without a license is often accompanied by other violations, including lack of insurance, missing documentation, and reckless driving. In several instances, unlicensed drivers were also involved in serious traffic accidents.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office believes the issue requires stricter enforcement, effective penalties, and continued public education to encourage safer driving behavior.
The report also highlights that driving under the influence remains a persistent problem. Despite years of warnings and awareness campaigns, hundreds of drivers were caught operating vehicles after consuming alcohol during 2025.
According to OM, the statistics demonstrate that road safety must remain a national priority. Authorities continue to work closely with the Aruba Police Force and other agencies to reduce traffic violations and prevent accidents that can result in injuries or loss of life.
