DIMP Warns Taxpayers Never to Share Login Credentials

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – DIMP Warns Taxpayers Never to Share Login Credentials as the Aruba Tax Department continues to remind residents to protect their online tax accounts and avoid giving anyone their username or password.

In an interview with Matutino DIARIO, Meverly Romano, Public Relations Officer for the Departamento di Impuesto (DIMP), stressed that safeguarding personal login information remains one of the department’s most important security messages.

Never Share Your Username or Password

Romano emphasized that taxpayers should never provide their login credentials to another person, even if they need assistance with their tax affairs.

According to DIMP, individuals who are authorized to assist taxpayers do not need to access the system using someone else’s username or password.

Instead, they should use their own accounts after being granted permission through the official portal.

“Never give another person your login information. Do not share your username or password,” Romano said during the interview.

Secure Authorization Through the Portal

DIMP explained that taxpayers can authorize another person, such as an accountant or tax representative, to access specific information within their account.

Through the online portal, the account holder can:

  • Authorize another person to access tax matters
  • Specify what information the authorized person may view or manage
  • Maintain full control over account permissions
  • Revoke authorization at any time

The authorized individual signs in using their own username and password, rather than the taxpayer’s credentials.

Protecting Sensitive Tax Information

Romano noted that a BOi account contains highly sensitive personal and tax information and should not be treated like an ordinary online account.

Because of the confidential nature of the data, DIMP has implemented multiple security measures to help protect taxpayers’ information.

Multi-Factor Authentication Adds Security

One of those protections is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

According to DIMP, even if someone were to obtain a taxpayer’s username and password, they would still be unable to access the account without the additional verification code required through the MFA process.

The department said this extra layer of security helps prevent unauthorized access to sensitive tax records.

Taxpayers Remain in Control

Romano explained that taxpayers retain complete control over who can access their tax information.

If an accountant or another representative is authorized to manage tax matters, the taxpayer can remove that authorization whenever necessary through the portal.

According to DIMP, this authorization system allows taxpayers to receive professional assistance while ensuring their personal login credentials remain private and their sensitive tax information stays protected.
