The Department of Taxes (DIMP) has announced that the final day to pay the 2026 motor vehicle tax is February 2, 2026. While the usual deadline is January 31, the date has been extended this year because January 31 falls on a Saturday.
License Plates
DIMP confirmed that no new license plates will be issued for 2026. The current blue-and-white plates issued in 2025 remain valid through 2029. Vehicle owners must continue using their existing 2025–2029 plates.
Tax Rates
The motor vehicle tax rate for 2026 remains unchanged. Taxpayers who are unsure of the amount due are advised to consult their vehicle registration document issued by the Department of Taxes.
Cost of Plates
Existing vehicle owners are not required to pay for license plates, as no new plates will be issued for 2026. New vehicle owners registering a car for the first time must pay Afl. 14 for license plates, while plates for motorcycles cost Afl. 10.
Payment Locations
Payments can be made at the main office in Camacuri, MFA Noord, MFA Paradera, MFA Santa Cruz, MFA Savaneta, and the San Nicolas office located in the Post Office building. Payments at DIMP offices can be made by debit card only. Cash payments are accepted exclusively at the Camacuri office for non-commercial individuals aged 60 and older and for those receiving social assistance.
No Payment Arrangements
DIMP emphasized that motor vehicle tax for 2026 cannot be paid if there are outstanding balances from previous years. Payment arrangements are not permitted for unpaid motor vehicle taxes from years prior to 2026.
Online Payment via Bank
Taxpayers are encouraged to pay online through their bank using the Bill Payment option. Payments made via Aruba Bank, Banco di Caribe, or Caribbean Mercantile Bank are processed within one working day. Payments through other banks may take at least five working days to be registered.
For proper processing, taxpayers must include the following details: personal number – year – license plate number (example: 50001234-2026-A97345). Separate transactions are required for each license plate.
If outstanding debts from previous years exist, payments will first be applied to those balances before being credited toward the 2026 tax.
Requesting an Online Receipt
Taxpayers using partial payments and paying via bank transfer may request a receipt online after completing the final payment. This can be done at impuesto.aw under Digitale formulieren > Kwitantie motorrijtuigbelasting, following the provided instructions.
Penalties for Late Payment
Payments received after February 2, 2026 will be considered late. Payments made on February 2 after the bank’s cut-off time will be processed the next business day and also counted as late. Late payments are subject to a penalty of 50% of the unpaid tax amount, and DIMP will issue an additional assessment.
Example:
-
Half-year tax: Afl. 150
-
Late penalty: Afl. 75
-
Total amount due: Afl. 225
Due to expected high traffic in the coming days, DIMP strongly advises taxpayers to complete their payments early and avoid waiting until the last minute. For more information, the public may consult the official DIMP website.
