Parliamentarian Eduard Pieters, leader of the PPA fraction, expressed satisfaction regarding the outcomes of the Interparliamentary Kingdom Conference (IPKO) sessions held in the Netherlands on Friday. The discussions primarily centered on addressing the democratic deficit within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the conference, parliamentarians were provided with detailed presentations from experts specializing in democratic deficit issues. These experts presented their work plans, preliminary analyses, and the methodology for the investigation. Pieters remarked that although the theme is historically significant, dating back to 1954, the manner in which it is being addressed during this IPKO provides renewed hope.
“Democratic deficit is something we have always fought for since 1954. But now, during this IPKO, it has been demonstrated that the time has come to act and make it a reality,” Pieters stated. The investigation focuses on five dimensions, with Pieters specifically highlighting the component of capacity. He explained that this factor is critical for establishing the means required to achieve genuine equity rather than equality, ensuring Aruba retains equal voice and weight in decisions.
Pieters characterized the meetings as successful, noting the cooperation aimed at improving the Kingdom. He concluded by affirming the PPA’s strong belief in a united Aruba and a solid, mutually respectful union within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
