ORANJESTAD (AAN): Prime Minister Mike Eman recently received a delegation at the Bestuurskantoor for a presentation of the “Fieldlab” initiative. This initiative, a collaboration model that has proven successful in the Netherlands, is aimed at enhancing community safety and security.
The “Fieldlab” program is a collaboration between the police, the Public Ministry (OM), and Reclassering, with a core focus on prevention. Its goal is to reduce the presence of firearms, prevent recidivism, and guide individuals involved in criminal activity toward positive life changes. The initiative has already made significant strides in reducing crime in the Netherlands, and Aruba is looking to apply these lessons locally.
The meeting included the participation of community representatives and neighborhood leaders, including from the KPA sector. This collaboration strengthens the dialogue between local authorities and the community, ensuring that the initiative aligns with the needs and concerns of residents.
Prime Minister Eman emphasized the importance of a strong community as the foundation for safety, reiterating the Government of Aruba’s commitment to neighborhood engagement and community-driven security. The “Fieldlab” initiative fits within the broader vision of promoting the “Common Good” by focusing on collective well-being and prevention.
The model forms part of a larger effort in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice to address issues surrounding firearms and reinforce safety in neighborhoods. The Government of Aruba sees this as an essential step toward sustainable, community-focused solutions that prioritize collaboration, early intervention, and social reintegration.
As Aruba continues to build a safer society, the “Fieldlab” model will provide valuable insights and tools to further reduce crime and improve community relationships.
