With the holiday season in full swing, marked by celebrations, gatherings, and end-of-year festivities, alcohol consumption tends to increase. In response, Fundacion Anti Droga Aruba (FADA) has once again launched its “BAR” campaign, which stands for “Bo Amigo Responsabel” (Your Responsible Friend).
In an interview with DIARIO, Rubiella Toppenberg of FADA stressed the importance of choosing a responsible friend before consuming alcohol, rather than making that decision after drinking has already begun or late at night.
According to Toppenberg, the BAR campaign has produced positive results throughout the year, and FADA is satisfied with the progress made, even though the organization hopes to do more. Looking ahead to 2026, FADA aims to involve more companies in order to secure additional funding and expand its awareness efforts.
Toppenberg emphasized that the need for a responsible designated companion remains high within the community, as traffic accidents—often linked to alcohol use—continue to occur.
“During these festive days, make use of your BAR—your trusted and responsible friend who can take you home safely,” she urged. “Do not drive yourself after drinking. Avoid accidents and, more importantly, prevent pain and tragedy during the holiday season.”
