Opposition Files Motion of No Confidence Against Minister Gerlien Croes

The MEP parliamentary faction has officially submitted a motion of no confidence against Minister Gerlien Croes, citing a lack of transparency and what it describes as misleading information provided to Parliament.

The motion was announced on social media by MEP leader Evelyn Wever-Croes, who stated that Parliament must take a clear stand when it is deliberately misled by a minister.

“When a minister deliberately misleads Parliament, Parliament must send the right signal: misleading Parliament is unacceptable,” Wever-Croes said. She emphasized that the motion is not intended to weaken the government, but rather to strengthen Parliament and uphold accountability.

Private Flight Controversy

According to the opposition, patience has run out after four weeks of unanswered questions regarding a controversial trip to Curaçao, during which Minister Croes allegedly used a private aircraft.

During that period, both Parliament and the public repeatedly requested clarification. Minister Croes stated vaguely that he had paid for the flight, while the aircraft owner reportedly claimed that no payment was received. The Minister has not disclosed to whom he paid, how much was paid, or on what date the payment was made.

For the MEP faction, this lack of detail constitutes misleading Parliament.

Loss of Confidence

With the continued absence of clear answers, the opposition concluded that the situation could no longer be tolerated, leading to the filing of the motion of no confidence.

“A minister who misleads Parliament cannot simply continue as if nothing happened,” Wever-Croes stated.

The MEP faction confirmed that, based on the points outlined in the motion, Minister Gerlien Croes no longer enjoys their confidence. At the time of reporting, no public response had been received from MP Mike de Meza regarding his position on the matter.
