Aruba’s Social Formation Program is reporting positive early changes among participants after three weeks, while confirming that five of the 21 young people who began the current group are no longer enrolled.
Jessica Ras of SVT said the Aruba youth program progress reflects an intensive process that requires discipline, perseverance and a willingness to change.
Sixteen participants remain
The group began with 21 young people from different backgrounds and with different reasons for joining. Five have since left the program.
Some were removed because they did not meet requirements or because their behavior conflicted with the program’s expectations. Others chose to leave after deciding that SVT was not the right path for them.
Ras said the team does not give up on a participant quickly. Young people may receive several opportunities to improve their behavior and attitude, but persistent disruption can affect the motivation of the wider group.
Former participants offer encouragement
When a participant considers leaving, staff members discuss the decision and try to encourage the person to continue. Former participants who completed the program and entered military service also share their experiences to demonstrate the opportunities that may follow.
Focus on skills and mental wellbeing
The 16 remaining participants continue receiving time, guidance and support as they work on discipline, behavior and personal strengths. SVT is also addressing mental wellbeing during the process.
The program’s goal is for participants to finish with greater confidence, practical tools and a stronger foundation for their future.
