ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AAN) — The Department of Motor Vehicle Tax (DIMP) has clarified its role in the collection of Aruba vehicle tax license plate fees, emphasizing that it does not decide how the collected funds are spent.

According to Meverly Romano, Public Relations Officer of DIMP, the department is responsible for enforcing the Motor Vehicle Ordinance and collecting Aruba vehicle tax license plate fees from vehicle owners across the island. Once collected, these funds are deposited directly into the government’s official account.

Romano explained that the Aruban government alone determines how Aruba vehicle tax license plate fees are allocated, in line with the national budget and public finance regulations.

“DIMP does not determine how the funds are used,” Romano stated. “Our responsibility is limited to collecting Aruba vehicle tax license plate fees on behalf of the government. The government then decides how these funds are distributed.”

She added that the same process applies to all other taxes collected by DIMP that are designated for government use.
