Aruba vaccination figures were subject to known population-estimate limitations in 2021, according to internal Dutch health-ministry correspondence described in a November 1 NoticiaCla report. The same issue was raised for Curaçao.
Uncertainty concerned the population denominator
The report says officials warned on May 11, 2021 that the number of residents without residence documents was not known. Although vaccinations among undocumented people were registered, an uncertain population total made it difficult to calculate coverage for everyone living on each island. The concern was not a claim that administered vaccine doses had gone unrecorded.
Documents do not establish deliberate falsification
According to NoticiaCla, the warning was shared with people involved on the islands and then state secretary Paul Blokhuis. The report says the documents do not demonstrate that Aruba or Curaçao deliberately published false figures or made incorrect decisions based on them. The historical correspondence should not be read as a new measurement of current vaccination coverage.
