Aruba Seeks Court Delay as UTV Talks Continue

Aruba’s government has asked the court to postpone a September 10 hearing over motorized access to natural areas while officials, conservation interests and the tour sector continue discussions.

Court has not yet ruled on delay request

The summary case was brought by Aruba Birdlife Conservation against the government and FPNA. NoticiaCla reported that ABC opposes the requested delay while FPNA does not object. Prime Minister Mike Eman and Infrastructure Minister Rene Herde told protesting operators that the government wants time to seek a solution that protects nature while preserving lawful activity and employment. A court decision had not been announced in the cited reports.

Operators present preliminary protocol

Tour Operators Uni presented a first version of a Nature Driving Protocol covering control, regulation and conduct for motorized vehicles in protected areas. Representatives from several tour companies discussed it with Herde. Separately, some barriers near Alto Vista Chapel and Westpunt were moved, allowing vehicles to pass again; the reports did not establish who moved them. The Aruba UTV case delay therefore remains one part of a wider, unresolved access dispute.
