The Aruba UN cooperation meeting took place Thursday when Prime Minister Mike Eman received Lise Gregoire-van Haaren, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York, during an official visit to Aruba.

The Aruba UN cooperation meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between Aruba and the Kingdom’s representation at the United Nations, with particular emphasis on sustainable development, environmental protection, and international cooperation opportunities.

Prime Minister Eman emphasized that the position of the Kingdom’s permanent representative at the United Nations plays an important role for all countries within the Kingdom, including Aruba.

According to Eman, Aruba has previously invested strongly in maintaining relationships with the Kingdom’s UN representation. Through this collaboration, Aruba has advanced several national priorities, including the transition toward a more sustainable society.

During the Aruba UN cooperation meeting, discussions also focused on how Aruba can balance economic growth with environmental protection and preservation of cultural identity.

Eman noted that Aruba has the potential to become an example for other island nations worldwide in sustainable development and responsible natural resource management.

Another key topic raised during the Aruba UN cooperation meeting was Aruba’s economic direction following the closure of the oil refinery sector. The government is now focusing on new economic opportunities based on sustainability, innovation, and the creation of high-quality employment for future generations.

Gregoire-van Haaren expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister and stressed that the Kingdom’s permanent representation at the United Nations represents all parts of the Kingdom, including Aruba.

She noted that Aruba has valuable experience to share internationally, particularly with other island nations facing similar environmental and economic challenges.

The Aruba UN cooperation meeting also addressed the concept of the “common good,” an idea gaining international recognition as a guiding principle for public policy and social development. This approach prioritizes community well-being and sustainability in governance.

Both parties confirmed their intention to continue strengthening Aruba UN cooperation with the Kingdom’s representation at the United Nations and to translate the collaboration into concrete actions that benefit Aruba while contributing to global dialogue on sustainable development.
