Member of Parliament John Hart (AVP) has requested a formal parliamentary question hour (“vragenuur”) followed by a full parliamentary meeting to address growing concerns about road safety in Aruba.
Hart emphasized that the current Aruba traffic safety law must be strengthened, particularly regarding penalties for dangerous driving behavior. According to him, legislation should send a clearer and stronger signal to motorists to change reckless conduct on the roads.
He stressed that traffic safety is a shared responsibility involving drivers, lawmakers, law enforcement, driving schools, and organizations such as FADA. Hart also welcomed increased police presence on the roads and highlighted the need for stronger enforcement, especially during the Carnival season, when speeding, alcohol use, and mobile phone distractions increase accident risks.
Hart concluded that effective traffic safety requires stronger laws, continuous public awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement.
