AVP parliamentary leader Jennifer Arends-Reyes says Aruba tourism growth should translate into better living conditions for residents, according to an October 25 report by 24ora.
Her remarks were linked to a Finance Committee meeting with the financial supervision body CAft and its October 23 communication. They represent the MP’s response to that advice, not the announcement of an adopted tourism plan.
Housing and infrastructure shape the debate
Arends-Reyes highlighted pressure on the labour market, traffic, housing and utilities. She called for coordination between ministries and clear priorities in budgets and investment decisions.
She also said the regulation and oversight of short-term vacation rentals should consider both their economic contribution and their impact on housing and neighbourhood life.
Training and follow-through for residents
The MP emphasised training and career development for tourism workers, arguing that people who support the sector should have opportunities to progress and improve their circumstances.
She said implementation should come with clear responsibilities and follow-up to assess results. Her stated benchmark for future tourism choices is the wellbeing of residents, including young people seeking a future in Aruba.
