Four Aruba taekwondo athletes won medals at an international ranking competition in Quito, Ecuador, according to 24ora.
Four athletes represent Aruba
Quinten Klaber, Aidan Klaber, Xamier Lake and Nakiomy Del Rosario competed against athletes from countries including the United States, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador. The report said each member of the Aruba team earned a medal.
Coach Zahyon Klaber said the athletes prepared carefully and needed time to adjust to Quito’s altitude, which affected breathing and endurance. He said the competition showed the team where it can improve before returning to training in Aruba.
Young competitor tests herself abroad
Del Rosario, 11, faced an older athlete from the United States. Her father, Jean Michel Varlack, said international competition gives young athletes a chance to test themselves at a higher level and gain experience in unfamiliar conditions.
