An Aruba court has sentenced a Coast Guard member identified by the initials E.F. to 100 hours of community service after finding that he stole a boat motor from the Coast Guard compound.
Court finds boat-motor theft proven
According to Diario, the judge relied in part on chat messages in which E.F. discussed taking the motor and later returning it. The court rejected his explanation that he had moved the motor to test it on another boat.
Community service and suspended prison term
The court imposed 100 hours of community service, with 50 days in custody if the work is not completed. It also added a suspended one-month prison term with a one-year probation period.
E.F. was acquitted on allegations involving ammunition and protected shellfish because the court found those accusations were not proven. The case had been heard on September 17, 2026; E.F. did not attend the sentencing hearing because he was ill, but his lawyer was present.
