Lindor says long-running problems remain unresolved
FUTURO parliamentarian Ruthlyn Lindor has renewed her call for an Aruba mental-health crisis team, arguing that police have been discussing many of the same structural problems since 2012. Diario reported her comments in an interview published Wednesday.
Lindor, who has worked closely with and inside the Aruba Police Force, said repeated leadership changes and unstable structures have made lasting solutions difficult.
Crisis intervention could reduce police burden
Lindor said she wrote to the justice minister last year to ask about introducing a crisis-intervention team alongside police. She argued that police officers are not always the right professionals to lead encounters involving acute mental-health needs.
Retirements add urgency to staffing concerns
The lawmaker said experienced personnel are retiring while unresolved problems continue, creating larger staffing gaps before reforms are in place. Her comments add a specific policy proposal to the broader debate about mental-health calls and pressure on Aruba police.
