Two Aruba history publications were presented to Prime Minister Mike Eman at the University of Aruba on Tuesday evening, according to a November 4 report by 24ora. The event was organised by the university’s Center for Lifelong Learning.
New edition examines slavery on Aruba
Historian Luc Alofs handed over the third edition of Slaven zonder Plantage. The report says the edition incorporates new historical research and information from digitised archives, examining the lives of enslaved people and routes to freedom.
Research considers history in education
University rector Sue-Ann Lee presented Vergeten verhalen, verzwegen verleden, a report on the representation of resistance to slavery and colonialism in education in the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. According to 24ora, the research calls for stronger teaching materials and more attention to local history. The presentation does not itself announce an adopted curriculum change.
