An Aruba greenhouse farm in Savaneta is using climate-adapted technology to grow about 25,000 plants across nine lettuce varieties as it works to expand local food production.
Greenhouse system adapted to Aruba’s climate
Prime Minister Mike Eman and parliamentarian Stephany Sevinger visited 297 Farm in Yara, Savaneta, as part of an Accion di Bario community visit. Owner Gregory Fung-a-Fat explained how the operation has developed since it began in 2017 with indoor cultivation experiments.
According to Diario, the farm now operates two greenhouses. Demand for its locally grown lettuce currently exceeds production, making efficient and sustainable expansion a central challenge.
Visit highlights local production potential
Eman said the operation showed how modern methods can complement Aruba’s agricultural traditions. Fung-a-Fat also discussed practical challenges facing primary-sector producers and expressed confidence that further dialogue and cooperation could improve conditions for the sector.
Sevinger said direct conversations with producers can help policymakers better understand obstacles in the field. The visit did not include a new funding commitment or regulatory announcement, but it documented the scale of the farm’s current production and its demand-driven growth plans.
