Aruba Customs Clarifies Rules for Vehicle Imports

ORANJESTAD – Aruba Customs Director Roderick Croes says Customs allows the import of any vehicle unless it is specifically prohibited by law, stressing that its role is to collect import duties and enforce import regulations rather than determine whether a vehicle may be driven on public roads.

Croes explained that the Department of Technical Inspections (DTI) is responsible for approving vehicles for road use, while Customs focuses on controlling imports at the border. As an example, he noted that go-karts and certain other vehicles may legally enter Aruba even though they do not meet DTI requirements for use on public roads.

He urged residents to verify with DTI whether a vehicle can be registered and driven in Aruba before importing it, warning that Customs cannot advise consumers on which vehicles they should purchase or import.
