ORANJESTAD, WILLEMSTAD – Bestfly Aviation is working on making regional air travel between Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao more accessible with plans to introduce scheduled flights connecting the three islands. This week, the airline registered an Embraer aircraft, which is set to operate under a commercial flight license for inter-island services.

According to aviation attorney and columnist Lincoln D. Gomez, Aruba already possesses the necessary infrastructure for such services. Bestfly operates from a large base on the island, staffed with local experts capable of maintaining regional aircraft, including the Embraer E190 and ATR 72-600.

“What’s needed now is continued support from the aviation authorities, airport operators, and relevant ministers,” Gomez stated, underscoring the importance of backing from Aruba’s Minister of Transport, Ursell Arends, who has emphasized the significance of enhancing regional connectivity.

Aiming for Improved Connectivity

The aim of Bestfly’s initiative is to enhance air links between the islands, increase flight frequency, and make travel easier and more affordable. For years, locals and businesses have voiced concerns over the limited availability and high costs of inter-island flights.

The new flight route proposal aligns with ongoing requests from the private sector and civil society to make regional travel more accessible, particularly for students, entrepreneurs, and the general public.

Bestfly has been operating in Aruba for several years, offering global charter services for business executives, celebrities, and government officials, as well as medical flights. With Nuno and Alcinda Pereira at the helm, Bestfly has built a reputation as a reliable player in the international private aviation sector.

The Path Forward

Whether the new regional route becomes a reality hinges on the support from authorities in Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. If Aruba does not provide adequate backing, Bestfly may consider launching the service from Bonaire or Curaçao instead.
