President of the Customs Union (SADA), Edward Maduro, clarified in an interview with Matutino DIARIO that although Triple A manages the entire airport building, they do not have access to security cameras located in Customs’ cargo inspection areas.
Maduro explained that Customs maintains cameras in places where passenger and commercial cargo is inspected, but the general airport management is excluded from accessing these recordings. He also pointed out that the US Pre-Clearance area lacks camera surveillance, preserving strict privacy in sensitive zones.
He further emphasized that airport security personnel employed by Triple A are not sworn officers, unlike Customs officials who have legal authority to conduct inspections. Maduro underscored the importance of adhering to rules to ensure all individuals are treated equally and to prevent misconduct.
Maduro expressed concerns about the Customs Director allegedly withholding information from the union and criticized the lack of timely communication. He urged the Minister to engage with the union for a balanced understanding of airport operations.
