PPA Calls for Urgent Investment in San Nicolas; Motion Rejected

ORANJESTAD, Aruba news update today — The People’s Political Alliance (PPA) has called for immediate investments in San Nicolas to develop it as Aruba’s new cultural and tourism hub. The PPA motion, presented during TPEF budget discussions, urged the government to focus on revitalizing the district’s Mainstreet and Seroe Colorado areas. Unfortunately, the motion was rejected by the AVP and FUTURO parties despite widespread community concerns over tourism safety and infrastructure improvements.

PPA’s proposal sought to use TPEF funds to improve street lighting and complete essential construction work in the Mainstreet area to enhance the district’s tourism appeal. The motion also suggested increasing investment in local museums to promote San Nicolas as a “Cultural and Heritage City” for both locals and tourists.

“San Nicolas is a key area with great tourism potential, and it’s crucial that we invest in infrastructure to provide visitors with a unique and safe experience,” said Eduard Pieters, PPA representative.

The motion also called for increased safety measures near the Secrets Hotel in the Seroe Colorado area, emphasizing the need for better lighting to enhance safety for tourists and locals alike.

Despite the rejection, a similar motion was later proposed and passed by the AVP and FUTURO coalition, sparking political tension. PPA’s Otmar Oduber notably supported the motion, signaling political maturity despite the initial opposition.
