100 Days of Leadership Marked by Commitment and Progress — AVP-Futuro Cabinet

On March 28, 2025, Aruba opened a new chapter in its political history with the formation of the AVP-Futuro Cabinet — a strong, visionary coalition led by Premier Mike Eman and Vice Premier Gerlien Croes. The cabinet includes experienced leaders and young talent: Ministers Mervin Wyatt-Ras (Health), Wendrick Cicilia (Tourism), Geoffrey Wever (Economy & Finance), and Arthur Dowers (Justice).

From day one, this team prioritized open dialogue with key community stakeholders, including unions, business groups, tourism sectors, social institutions, and citizens.

After the first 100 days, the cabinet proudly reflects on several important achievements and looks forward to continuing the nation’s reconstruction and renewal with determination and hope.

Key achievements during the first 100 days include:

  • Social justice and senior care: Pensioners received a first-ever increase of 250 florins in reparations, benefiting nearly 20,000 retirees and around 4,000 widows and orphans. Further increases are planned.

  • Economic relief and purchasing power: Reduction of gasoline taxes provides direct financial relief to families and businesses, helping lower transport and living costs. The budget also allows for future balanced tax reductions and economic stimulation.

  • Healthcare restoration: AZV (health insurance) coverage expanded to include essential medicines, reversing previous cutbacks and emphasizing social care.

  • Support for vulnerable families: School subsidies and financial aid to families in need have increased, promoting equal educational opportunities for all children regardless of socioeconomic status.

  • Community and neighborhood action: Visible ministerial presence and collaboration with local organizations have begun to address long-neglected neighborhood issues.

  • Waste management and sustainability: Structural reforms to national waste management and wastewater solutions focus on dignity, hygiene, and environmental protection.

  • Nature and agriculture: Sustainable agriculture and reforestation initiatives in partnership with Wageningen University and local stakeholders aim to secure food security, jobs, and restore biodiversity.

  • Urban renewal: Major investments in the revitalization of Oranjestad and San Nicolas, including data-driven approaches and cultural-economic integration.

  • Preservation of cultural heritage: Restoration projects for historic schools Beatrixschool and Julianaschool honor Aruba’s educational heritage.

  • Education reform: Efforts focus on structural improvements, respect, open communication, shared responsibility, improved school facilities, and equal opportunity.

  • Sports development: Integration of sports with education and youth programs, infrastructure investments, and plans for sustainable sports management, including the return to international school competitions after 12 years.

The AVP-Futuro Cabinet’s first 100 days demonstrate a clear vision of inclusive progress, investing in Aruba’s people, communities, and future.
