Aruba Airport Authority Successfully Concludes Annual “Safety Week”

ORANJESTAD (AAN): Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) proudly concluded its annual “Safety Week,” held from June 23 to June 27, 2025. The event focused strongly on promoting safety awareness and best practices across all airside operations at the airport.

“Safety Week” is a key initiative for AAA, emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining the highest safety standards in areas where aircraft operations take place. Working closely with aircraft requires constant vigilance regarding safety. This week served as an important reminder that keeping the airport safe is a shared responsibility involving everyone — from airline staff and fuel crews to baggage handlers, air traffic controllers, emergency responders, maintenance teams, and many others working behind the scenes every day.

Throughout the week, AAA organized engaging presentations and interactive sessions inviting the entire airport community to participate. Key partners and stakeholders provided valuable insights on various safety aspects:

  • FMSA (Fuels Marketing & Supply Aruba N.V.): Shared about aircraft fueling processes and associated risks.

  • Brandweer Aruba (Fire Department): Highlighted their vital role in emergency response and collaboration with AAA.

  • Gen Air: Presented procedures and risks involved in ground handling services.

  • AAA Safety Office: Discussed emergency protocols specific to Aruba Airport.

  • AAA Development & Technology Unit: Explained how safety is integrated into every infrastructure and development project.

  • ANSA Air Traffic Control: Demonstrated how they maintain safety in aircraft movement and coordination in the air.

  • American Airlines: Offered a perspective on safety procedures from an airline operations standpoint.

The week concluded with the quarterly Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk, a critical safety inspection where approximately 90 airport community members worked together to identify and remove debris that could pose hazards to aircraft operations. This proactive quarterly initiative helps ensure a safe operational environment for both aircraft and airport personnel.

Andry Lopez, Safety & Compliance Manager at AAA, emphasized the initiative’s importance:
“Safety Week is more than a series of events — it reflects our commitment to a culture of safety that reaches every corner of the airport. By bringing together our partners and colleagues, we reinforce the message that safety is a daily responsibility.”

AAA extends its gratitude to all participants and partners who contributed to the success of Safety Week 2025 and reaffirms its dedication to maintaining a safe airport environment for everyone.
