KIA prison training has selected 14 young people from nearly 50 applicants for a basic correctional-officer course, Justice Minister Arthur Dowers told 24ora in a November 2 report.
Selection follows months of preparation
Dowers said the selection process began in April. The Basisopleiding Penitentiair Inrichtingswerker is intended to prepare recruits for work in Aruba’s prison system and help address staffing pressure at the correctional institution.
Course includes professional resilience
The minister said training includes psychosocial and emotional preparation, awareness of manipulation risks and mutual support among colleagues. He hopes another group can start next year if planning permits. Separately, preparatory discussions about a new prison continue; no final construction or funding decision was announced.
