The Aruba Floating Farm proposal has prompted 12 official written questions from MEP parliamentarian Xiomara Maduro to Finance Minister Geoffrey Wever, DIARIO reported on October 29.
Questions concern authority and commitments
Maduro is seeking clarification about a memorandum signed by Tourism Minister Wendrick Cicilia with Aruba Ports Authority to explore the project. Her questions address the minister’s mandate, Cabinet authorisation, Wever’s role and any possible financial commitments. The report does not establish that construction or project funding has been approved.
Local farming benefits and disclosure requested
Maduro also asks how the initiative would benefit Aruba’s existing food producers and what support is available to local farmers. She requested the complete memorandum and written answers within three weeks. Her concerns are parliamentary questions, not findings that the agreement is unlawful.
