Aruba residents who need legal assistance but cannot afford a lawyer can again seek advice through Tienda di Ley, the ‘Law Shop’ of the University of Aruba’s Faculty of Law, which resumed on October 3, NoticiaCla and Diario reported on October 27.
The service helps with employment disputes, rental problems, divorce, immigration, contracts, compensation claims, damage claims and payment arrangements.
Students supervised, advice only
During consultations, two law students assess each case under the supervision of an expert supervisor before providing written legal advice. The service only advises — it does not represent clients in court or in legal procedures — and complex cases are referred to the appropriate organisations.
Next consultation dates
Consultations take place at the University of Aruba by appointment only, with registration via tinyurl.com/tdley, Diario reported. The upcoming consultation dates are Saturday, October 31, 2026, then November 28 and December 12, continuing on dates through May 15, 2027.
As reported on October 27, the resumed Law Shop gives low-income residents a free first point of legal advice — delivered in writing by supervised law students — while making clear that representation in court remains outside what the service offers.
Who the service is for
Tienda di Ley is aimed at residents who need legal assistance but cannot afford a lawyer. The areas it covers are everyday legal problems: employment disputes, rental problems, divorce, immigration questions, contracts, compensation claims, damage claims and payment arrangements. A consultation produces written legal advice, prepared after two law students have assessed the case under the supervision of an expert supervisor.
The limits are equally clear in the announcement: the Law Shop advises only. It does not represent clients in court or in legal procedures, and where a case is complex it refers the person to the appropriate organisation instead. Consultations are by appointment only, at the University of Aruba, and the service resumed on October 3, 2026.
