Aruba community centres need at least Afl. 1.4 million in additional funding, PPA parliamentary leader Eduard Pieters said after a meeting with CEDE Aruba and representatives of most neighbourhood centres, according to 24ora’s October 29 report.
Pieters describes a remaining shortfall
Pieters said funding had been secured for the next five years but that needs still exceeded the available resources. He recalled a 2025 PPA proposal to allocate Afl. 5 million and said his group would support a new parliamentary amendment regardless of which faction submitted it. The figures are his account, not an independently audited calculation.
Other lawmakers call for support
In separate reports on the centres’ needs, AVP parliamentarian Otami Thomasia said a parliamentary committee would meet the following week to examine additional support. FUTURO parliamentarian Ruthlyn Lindor highlighted youth activities, facility maintenance and closer contact with social workers and neighbourhood police. No approved new allocation was announced.
