The Aruba basketball league is returning with the opening of the 2026-27 national championship at Club Estrella in Santa Cruz on Saturday, October 10.
Players return after more than a year
The opening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a parade of teams from the mini through junior divisions. Members have waited more than a year for another championship, according to 24ora.
Aruba Basketball Bond currently counts 16 teams across different divisions, representing five member clubs and about 180 male and female players starting from age nine.
Training supports coaches and referees
The federation said it is working with the Netherlands Basketball Federation to improve both participation and quality. Three coaches are pursuing the recognized BT3 qualification, while 15 participants recently completed four days of referee instruction.
The opening will also recognize Gloria Croes for her contribution to basketball at Estrella. Jerral Maduro will serve as master of ceremonies and DJ Sean Jansen will provide entertainment.
