Coral Academy Aruba has officially opened as the island’s first centre dedicated to coral restoration and education about Aruba’s reef ecosystem, according to a local news report.
A centre for restoration and learning
24ora reported that the academy extends coral-restoration work begun by Scubble Bubbles. Director Nicole Danser said the facility is intended to make reef information accessible to people who may not enter the water and to build broader interest in coral and the marine environment.
The centre combines practical coral-restoration activity with an educational space for children and adults. Organizers hope schools across Aruba will eventually visit, giving students a route into marine biology, internships and research.
Partners supported the new facility
De Palm Tours provided the location, while the TUI Care Foundation supplied funding for the project, according to the report. De Palm Tours chief executive Brian Stediford described the opening as the result of cooperation among De Palm Tours, Scubble Bubbles and the foundation.
The report said TUI Care Foundation’s Sea the Change programme also sponsored some equipment used at the academy.
Making Aruba’s reef work visible
Stediford said the permanent facility gives the public and visitors a clearer view of local sustainability and reef-restoration work. The academy’s stated goal is to help more people understand, value and protect Aruba’s coral reefs.
