Aruba will move SEDECO consumer services into the Directorate of Economic Affairs, Trade and Industry, known as DEZHI, on October 1, according to 24ora.
New department will assist consumers and tenants
The Council of Ministers approved the reorganization on August 28. SEDECO’s responsibilities will continue within a new Rental and Consumer Protection Department at DEZHI, where residents can seek information, guidance and assistance with consumer and tenant rights.
Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector Minister Geoffrey Wever said the integration is intended to connect economic policy, information, guidance and citizen protection more directly while reducing fragmented responsibilities.
Staff and Rental Committee support will transfer
All SEDECO employees will formally transfer to DEZHI on October 1. Government human-resources officials, DEZHI and the TOPA and SEPPA unions have consulted on the transition, while staff whose roles do not continue in the new structure are being supported through individual reassignment processes.
Operational support for the Rental Committee will be placed temporarily within DEZHI, but the committee’s legal independence will remain intact. The Council of Ministers also approved funding to recruit two additional consultants for the new department.
