Rental e-scooters remained on public roads in Palm Beach one day after an Aruba judge ordered the devices removed, according to a September 17 report from the hotel area.
24Ora reported that the scooters were still visibly parked in the tourist district despite the court order.
Court order carries a daily penalty
Justice Minister Arthur Dowers said he supports the judge’s decision. He warned that rental companies that fail to remove their equipment from public roads can face sanctions.
Under the ruling described by 24Ora, owners risk a penalty of 500 florins for each day they leave the devices on public roads without complying.
Enforcement in Palm Beach remains under watch
The continued presence of e-scooters after the decision has raised questions about how quickly the court order will be enforced. It was not yet clear how long the companies would continue to leave the devices in place.
Authorities may have to remove the scooters if noncompliance continues. The situation follows an ongoing debate over whether and where rental e-scooters may operate in Aruba.
