ORANJESTAD, Aruba — A series of free Aruba education workshops and conferences is being offered through the Learning Cities platform, with sessions scheduled through October for educators, parents, vocational institutions and the wider community.
According to 24Ora’s report on the Education Ministry announcement, the program covers social-emotional learning, vocational education, language-development support and multilingual teaching.
Social-emotional workshop continues September 23
The Conscious Discipline program began with a September 17 session for educators and continues September 23 with a session for parents. The Education Department of Aruba and Fundacion Educador Consciente Aruba are facilitating the workshops.
The sessions focus on helping adults manage their own emotions and guide children’s social-emotional development. Participation is free, with registration available through the Learning Cities Aruba platform.
Vocational education and language support on October 5
An October 5 session will examine how vocational programs can align more closely with Aruba’s labor-market needs and create internship opportunities. Organizations identified for the discussion include SPO, EPI, EPB and OABA.
Also on October 5, educators can attend professional development on identifying and supporting students with developmental language disorder. A national congress on the condition will be open to the public on October 6. The Foundation for the Hearing Impaired Aruba is organizing those activities.
Multilingual teaching program set for October
A conference on multilingual teaching is scheduled for October 19 for teachers working in preschool and the first three primary grades. Practical workshops will follow from October 20 through October 22.
The continuing-professional-development center at Instituto Pedagogico Arubano is responsible for that program. Professor Joana Duarte of the University of Groningen, whose work focuses on inclusion and multilingual education, is scheduled to lead the conference and workshops.
The ministry said the activities are intended to strengthen professional development and improve education quality in Aruba. The announced sessions and conferences are free.
