Aruba debt refinancing talks are beginning in Amsterdam, where Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Geoffrey Wever traveled for a two-day forum with institutional investors as the government prepares to refinance part of the country’s external debt.
Aruba plans for a major 2027 repayment
Wever said Aruba has about 941 million florins in older debt due next year. The government plans to use 84 million florins from its own treasury, in line with the legal requirement to apply part of the budget surplus, and refinance the remaining amount.
Early talks with institutional investors
The Amsterdam forum brings together insurers, international banks and other institutional investors. Wever said starting discussions early is prudent because those investors are among the usual buyers of bonds issued by Aruba.
The minister said the annual use of part of Aruba’s surplus gradually lowers the outstanding debt and reduces future interest costs.
