The 34th annual Aruba Blacktie Foundation event filled the Renaissance Convention Center on Saturday night, raising support for specialized sports equipment for young athletes with disabilities.
Foundation president Sharine Geerman said the event had been sold out since February. The evening featured four live bands in a rotating setup, along with music from Metropolis Disco.
Aruba Black Tie fundraiser supports inclusive sport
This year’s event was dedicated to Beyond Sport Limit Foundation. Proceeds are intended to help purchase a specialized bicycle and kayak for use in triathlon activities.
Ivan Croes, a representative of Beyond Sport Limit, said the equipment will help young people with special needs participate in sports on more equal terms. He thanked Aruba Blacktie Foundation for the support and said the contribution could encourage others to invest in community initiatives.
Athletes recently competed in Colombia
Croes said participants recently traveled to Medellín, Colombia, where they took part in a half marathon and a 10-kilometre race. The group also visited Guatapé and Comuna 13 during the trip.
Beyond Sport Limit has operated for about five or six years and works under the leadership of Bjornick Jacobs and Breiner Lampe, according to the event report.
Foundation looks ahead to 35th edition
Geerman has led Aruba Blacktie Foundation for 14 years. She credited attendees and supporters for the success of the sold-out celebration and said the organization is already planning its 35th anniversary event.
The foundation announced that next year’s edition is expected to feature Musica Time, Zarao, Solo Banda Show, Shine Music and Metropolis Disco. Organizers said proceeds from that future event are planned for Stichting Funari.
