PPA parliamentary leader Eduard Pieters is seeking Landspakket clarity from the Dutch government on whether Aruba’s reform partnership will continue after the current period ends.
Questions follow Dutch parliamentary debate
Pieters responded after members of the Dutch House of Representatives asked about the future of the reform package during a debate on Kingdom Relations. He said the Dutch state secretary did not provide a concrete answer.
According to Pieters, Aruba has expressed interest in continuing the reform process. He also said the cooperation has received a positive evaluation, but the next phase remains uncertain despite the time and resources already invested.
Cooperation and financial oversight
Pieters contrasted the uncertainty around the Landspakket with the attention being given to the proposed HOFA Kingdom Act. He said he supports strong financial supervision but believes oversight should be anchored in Aruba’s own law and should preserve the authority of Aruba’s Parliament.
His statements combine two related policy questions: how reform cooperation with the Netherlands will continue and how future financial oversight should be structured.
