The Dutch housing shortage remains a serious challenge for Aruban students, with a national shortfall of roughly 20,200 student rooms and apartments being reported.
About 5,000 new units were built in 2025, but demand continues to exceed supply. The problem can be especially difficult for students arriving from Aruba because living temporarily with parents is usually not an option.
Long waiting lists
Arubahuis has previously warned that housing waiting lists can range from two to five years. In major student cities including Utrecht and Eindhoven, waits of three to four years are common.
Students planning to study abroad are advised to register and begin searching early, in some cases at least two years before departure. The latest figures show why Aruban student housing preparation remains essential.
