ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Cuida Aruba Cleanup Sites will be available at six strategic locations across the island on Saturday, August 29, giving residents an opportunity to dispose of waste as part of the second National Cuida Aruba Day.
The six collection points will operate from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
The Government of Aruba and its partners decided to use fewer but more strategically located collection points during this edition of the nationwide cleanup campaign.
Prime Minister Mike Eman said the change is based on lessons learned from the first edition and is intended to make waste collection, transportation and processing more efficient.
Cuida Aruba Cleanup Sites Across the Island
The six Cuida Aruba Cleanup Sites available on Saturday are:
- San Nicolas: Trupial Field, next to Centro Medico San Nicolas
- Pos Chikito/Burubundo: Baseball field
- Barcadera: Waste Zone at EcoTech
- Santa Cruz: Arsenal Field
- Oranjestad: Harbour Arena
- Tanki Leendert: Field next to Colegio Ora Ubao
The locations were selected to provide access to residents in different parts of Aruba while allowing organizers to better coordinate trucks, containers and waste-processing operations.
Six Locations Intended to Improve Efficiency
During the first Cuida Aruba cleanup, organizers operated a larger number of collection points.
However, managing many sites at the same time placed significant pressure on trucks responsible for collecting full containers, transporting them for unloading and returning them to the collection areas.
For the second edition, concentrating operations at six locations is expected to improve the flow of containers and reduce delays.
Organizers hope the streamlined approach will make it easier for residents to dispose of waste while allowing collection crews to work more efficiently.
Special Traffic System at Harbour Arena
Harbour Arena in Oranjestad was one of the busiest collection points during the previous cleanup campaign.
For Saturday’s event, organizers plan to introduce a designated entrance and exit system to help vehicles move through the area efficiently.
Residents using Harbour Arena are being asked to follow instructions from staff and volunteers to prevent traffic congestion and keep unloading moving continuously.
Residents Asked to Separate Waste at Home
Organizers are also encouraging residents to separate different types of waste before traveling to the Cuida Aruba Cleanup Sites.
Sorting materials in advance can make unloading faster and help with the later transportation and processing of collected waste.
Residents are also being asked to remain patient, particularly during periods of heavier traffic.
The initiative is not only intended to improve Aruba’s appearance. Officials have also linked proper waste disposal to public health because abandoned materials can collect rainwater and create breeding areas for mosquitoes.
EcoTech Barcadera Available During the Week
Residents do not necessarily need to wait until Saturday to dispose of waste.
The Waste Zone at EcoTech in Barcadera is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Government officials are encouraging residents who can use the facility before August 29 to do so, helping reduce pressure on the six collection points during National Cuida Aruba Day.
Community Invited to Participate
Cuida Aruba also encourages residents, families, community groups, organizations and businesses to volunteer or adopt areas for cleanup.
The second edition aims to strengthen shared responsibility for keeping neighborhoods, recreational areas, schools and other public spaces clean.
Through the six Cuida Aruba Cleanup Sites, organizers hope to make waste disposal easier while building on the experience of the first nationwide campaign.
The Saturday cleanup forms part of a broader effort to encourage residents to treat keeping Aruba clean as an ongoing community responsibility rather than a one-day activity.
