An Aruba Colombia earthquake fundraiser has been launched by Asociacion Amigos de Colombia to support families affected by the recent earthquake in Colombia.
Moises Fernandez of Asociacion Amigos de Colombia said the organization decided to begin raising funds after seeing the difficult circumstances facing many Colombian families.
According to Fernandez, some families have lost everything and continue to deal with serious hardship following the disaster.
The association therefore wants to provide assistance to people considered most in need.
Fundraising Begins in Aruba
For now, the organization is collecting financial donations rather than physical supplies.
Fernandez explained that the association has not yet completed the logistical and legal arrangements required to send donated products directly from Aruba to Colombia.
The funds collected can instead be used to purchase items needed by affected families once the appropriate arrangements are in place.
Transport Companies Offer Support
Fernandez said several transportation companies in Aruba have already offered assistance.
According to him, companies have indicated that containers and collection facilities could be made available once the organization is ready to begin receiving and shipping physical donations.
However, the association must first ensure that all legal requirements for bringing relief goods into Colombia are properly handled.
The group is currently working with a consultant in Colombia to help organize this process.
The Aruba Colombia earthquake fundraiser will continue while Asociacion Amigos de Colombia works on the next steps for delivering assistance to families affected by the disaster.
