Aruba nature education helps children build respect for coastal ecosystems

Aruba nature education is helping young children develop a stronger connection with the environment through hands-on experiences in natural areas such as Santo Largo.

Introducing children to nature from an early age can help create lifelong habits of respect and responsibility toward the environment.

Experiences such as walking through natural areas, observing plants and animals and learning about local ecosystems can help children build an emotional connection with the world around them.

That connection can later contribute to a stronger sense of responsibility for protecting Aruba’s natural spaces.

Recently, park rangers from Aruba Conservation Foundation joined Buki di Pret Aruba to give a group of children an opportunity to explore the Santo Largo area.

The young participants became “coastal detectives” as they walked through the area and learned about the coastal ecosystem.

During the activity, children were encouraged to ask questions, make observations and discover environmental features for themselves.

Organizers emphasized that protecting nature begins with understanding how ecosystems function and why they are important.

Through experiences like these, children can develop greater appreciation for plants, wildlife and green spaces while also learning about the role they can play in conservation.

The activity at Santo Largo is another example of how Aruba nature education can combine recreation and learning while encouraging younger generations to care for the island’s environment.
