ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Aruba Community Honors Ng Wah Sing as members of the island’s Chinese community travelled to New York to celebrate his 80th birthday and recognize his long-standing connection with Aruba.

Ng Wah Sing, a familiar name to many people on the island, celebrated his 80th birthday during the weekend. Although the celebration took place in New York, the occasion became strongly connected to Aruba through the presence of friends and community members who made the trip to honor him personally.

What made the birthday especially meaningful was the surprise organized by people from his former home in Aruba. Members of the Chinese community travelled from the island to New York to show their appreciation and friendship, turning the milestone birthday into a memorable gathering that reflected the strength of long-distance relationships.

Ng Wah Sing grew up in Aruba before later travelling abroad to study engineering. After completing his studies, he eventually settled in New York. Despite living overseas, Aruba remained an important part of his life, and he continued returning to the island regularly over the years.

According to the report, his visits were especially frequent during Aruba’s Carnival season, allowing him to reconnect with friends and maintain his strong bond with the island community.

Aruba Community Honors Ng Wah Sing not only through the birthday celebration but also with a special recognition presented during the gathering.

The Tjin, Huang and Chow families presented Ng Wah Sing with an official certificate from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) naming him a Goodwill Ambassador of Aruba.

The recognition was described as an emotional moment for the birthday celebrant. Ng reportedly reflected on the many friendships he still maintains in Aruba and the greetings he continues to send to people on the island.

The presentation also highlighted how deeply connected he remains to Aruba despite having lived in New York for many years.

The celebration became more than a traditional birthday party. For those attending, it represented a reunion built around friendship, loyalty and shared memories.

The visit by members of Aruba’s Chinese community demonstrated that personal connections can remain strong even after people move far away from the island.

Ng Wah Sing’s story also reflects the wider connection many former Aruba residents maintain with the country after relocating abroad. Whether through regular visits, cultural celebrations or continued friendships, their relationship with Aruba can remain an important part of their identity.

The Goodwill Ambassador recognition further acknowledged Ng’s continued affection for the island and his role in maintaining a positive connection between Aruba and people abroad.

The gathering in New York ultimately served as both a celebration of his 80th birthday and a tribute to decades of friendship.

For the community members who travelled from Aruba, the occasion offered an opportunity to personally thank and honor someone whose connection with the island has remained strong throughout his life.
