Curaçao is looking to clarify the positions of its Kingdom partners Aruba and St. Maarten during an upcoming tripartite parliamentary meeting on June 30, ahead of the next Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) scheduled to be held in the Netherlands later this year.
According to Parliament President Fergino Brownbill, the meeting is expected to set the tone for joint strategy and coordination on Kingdom-wide legislative matters.
Uncertainty Surrounding September IPKO
While the next IPKO is tentatively planned for September 26–29, 2025 in the Netherlands, uncertainty clouds the event due to the Dutch parliamentary elections on October 29. The Caribbean parliamentary leaders have not yet received official confirmation from The Hague regarding the session’s status.
June 30 Tripartite Meeting Agenda
The three Caribbean countries will focus on:
- Continuing discussions from earlier tripartite and IPKO sessions
- Evaluating the dispute resolution mechanism within the Kingdom
- Exploring regional cooperation opportunities
- Enhancing collaboration between the standing parliamentary committees of Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Maarten
Curaçao views the meeting as a pivotal moment to harmonize strategic positions with its partners and ensure unified representation in future Kingdom consultations.
