ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba, Sint Maarten Strengthen Digital Infrastructure Ties as government officials from both countries met to expand regional cooperation on infrastructure management, digital innovation, and public services.
Aruba’s Minister of Infrastructure, Rene Herdé, held an official meeting with Sint Maarten Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) Patrice Gumbs, along with senior officials from both governments, to establish closer collaboration between the two Caribbean nations.
Focus On Land Management And Digital Services
During the meeting, officials exchanged ideas on improving infrastructure management and discussed opportunities to share expertise and best practices.
One of the main topics was strengthening cooperation between Kadaster Sint Maarten and Aruba’s Department of Land Survey and Property Registration (DLV) to improve land administration and property registration systems.
The Aruba, Sint Maarten Strengthen Digital Infrastructure Ties initiative also included discussions on digital land management platforms, including the TERENO system, allowing both countries to exchange experiences on the modernization of public services.
Technology Supporting Smarter Infrastructure
Officials also explored the use of data collected from public cameras to improve traffic management and mobility planning.
Aruba shared its experience using technology and data analysis to support evidence-based decision-making for infrastructure projects and transportation planning.
In addition, representatives discussed the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) across government agencies and how GIS technology can enhance urban planning, land management, infrastructure development, and spatial planning.
Regional Cooperation For Future Development
Minister Herdé emphasized that regional partnerships are essential for helping Caribbean islands address shared infrastructure challenges.
He stated that exchanging knowledge and practical experience enables governments to develop more efficient solutions while continuing to modernize services for residents.
The Aruba, Sint Maarten Strengthen Digital Infrastructure Ties partnership reflects Aruba’s ongoing commitment to digital transformation, innovation, and regional cooperation as key elements in building stronger public institutions and modern infrastructure for the future.
