ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Foundation for the Safeguarding of Aruba’s Cultural Heritage (FSHCA) presented its original theatrical production “Otro Gay ta Canta” on San Juan Day at the Savaneta Community Center.
Written and directed by Ferdinand Franca, the play tells a fictional story inspired by Aruba’s Dera Gay tradition, highlighting the historical transition from using a live rooster during the celebration to the symbolic calabash used today.
The performance attracted a large audience, who warmly received the production and its cultural message. The play featured approximately 35 children, forming part of a collaborative project between Grupo Senguene and FARPA to promote theatre arts and children’s theatre in Aruba.
The production was funded by CEDE Aruba through its Let’s Act programme, which supports artistic and cultural development.
FSHCA announced that “Otro Gay ta Canta” will be performed again on June 27 at the Aruba School of Arts, with free performances scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The foundation invites families to attend and support the continued development of theatre and the preservation of Aruba’s cultural heritage for future generations.
